CPA warns public against fake websites

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has urged the public to verify the authenticity of official websites before submitting complaints or dealing with any online platform claiming to represent government entities.

In an awareness message on electronic fraud, the authority advised users to ensure that the website address begins with “https” and ends with “.gov.om”, which indicates that it belongs to an official government entity in Oman.

The CPA said complaints and reports should be submitted only through its official website, www.cpa.gov.om.

It also warned that even minor changes or discrepancies in website links could be signs of a phishing attempt.
