Oman’s human rights body handles 1,479 cases in 2025
Muscat: Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) said that it received and monitored 1,479 human rights cases during 2025, and managed to find solutions in accordance with national laws and international conventions.
The committee studied the cases and provided legal advice and guidance to the individuals involved, directing them to the official mechanisms available to pursue their cases before the competent authorities.
The committee also continued its role in monitoring and receiving complaints and reports, coordinating with relevant bodies to follow up on them.
This involved practical efforts to facilitate access to justice and guarantee due process, monitoring the rights of inmates and detainees, and ensuring healthcare within detention facilities.
Furthermore, the committee monitored issues related to the right to a decent life, social protection, work, education, health, housing, and a healthy environment.
Child Protection
The committee also prioritized protecting children from harmful practices, particularly those related to child exploitation through social media. It advocated for enhanced awareness and the development of reporting and prevention channels to safeguard the best interests of the child and protect their privacy and safety.
Royal Pardons
OHRC noted that the total number of prison inmates included in the Royal Pardon during 2025 was 2,115, including citizens and foreigners, convicted in various cases.
OHRC conducted field visits to workers’ gatherings and workers’ accommodations, including assessing workers’ housing conditions in terms of safety standards, availability of first aid, adequate space, fire safety requirements, sanitary facilities, and hygiene levels, in fulfillment of its mandate to monitor workers’ rights and ensure a decent living environment for them, the committee also listened to workers’ feedback and examined the facilities and services provided.
Security and Safety Services Corporation
The statement indicated that the committee visited the inspection unit of the Security and Safety Services Corporation, where it reviewed the unit’s responsibilities, operational mechanisms, procedures, and services provided, affirming the quality and efficiency of the corporation’s performance, which reflects its commitment to professional standards.
OHRC noted that it had received several complaints and reports, which were resolved in coordination with relevant authorities. It also highlighted the provision of designated spaces enabling inmates to meet with their families, as part of its efforts to strengthen family ties and improve the psychological well-being of inmates.
Social Protection Benefits: OHRC reported receiving and monitoring several complaints submitted through social media platforms regarding access to social protection benefits. These individuals fall under one of the eligible categories and were enabled to receive these benefits in accordance with the provisions of the Social Protection Law, in coordination with the Social Protection Fund.
Repair works in schools
OHRC received a complaint regarding the provision of a safe learning environment due to the impact of maintenance and renovation work in some schools. The committee followed up on this matter within its mandate with the Ministry of Education, which subsequently issued a circular to educational directorates emphasizing the importance of managing these works in a way that ensures the safety of school users and does not disrupt the educational process.
The circular also stressed the need to monitor the companies carrying out maintenance work in schools, ensuring compliance with approved technical specifications and standards, adherence to applicable preventative measures, and the achievement of the highest levels of safety in the school environment.
Muscat Rehabilitation Center
The Omani Human Rights Commission affirmed that the Muscat Rehabilitation Center offering services for addiction represents a significant addition to the integrated healthcare system. The center aims to provide rehabilitation and recovery services for patients with addiction, psychological and neurological disorders, and other conditions requiring long-term rehabilitative care. The commission noted that the center is the first government-run center specializing in addiction rehabilitation and recovery, providing a comprehensive range of treatment services for addicts, starting with detoxification, progressing through rehabilitation, and culminating in recovery and psychological support.
Sohar Rehabilitation Center
OHRC confirmed that the establishment of the Sohar Rehabilitation Center in partnership with the private sector contributes to providing specialized medical, psychological, and social services for the recovery of addiction patients and their reintegration into society, thus enhancing their quality of life, which is an important aspect of qualitative development.
