Oman Consumer Protection Authority Seizes 1,609 School Items Over Morality Violations
The seizure of these 1,609 educational materials was conducted by market inspectors working in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman following the field audit of products where their illustrations and graphics blatantly violated the country’s public-morality standards, according to the official regulatory bodies.
The inspection drive involved judicial officers belonging to the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), who conducted surprise inspections of the retail businesses in the region. The drive formed part of the government’s annual “Back to School” campaign, which is designed to inspect the retail inventory of the businesses.
Authority representatives confirmed that field teams moved swiftly to impound all non-compliant merchandise from retail shelves immediately upon discovery. The confiscated items, which featured inappropriate visual elements deemed incompatible with the Sultanate’s social fabric, were placed into administrative custody to prevent further public distribution. Formal legal proceedings have already been initiated against the non-compliant commercial entities in strict accordance with the statutory provisions set forth under Oman’s Consumer Protection Law and its corresponding executive regulations.
The CPA emphasized that these rigorous market monitoring campaigns are intentionally designed to combat unlawful commercial practices, prevent market manipulation, and halt the circulation of unsuitable merchandise targeting young students. Similar enforcement operations conducted in other governorates, including Muscat, have recently led to the impounding of non-compliant stationary, bags, and accessories, reflecting a coordinated nationwide strategy to maintain strict quality and ethical standards across retail supply chains.
The authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining active surveillance across all regional markets throughout the busy academic shopping season. Official channels, hotlines, and digital portals remain open to encourage consumers and parents to report suspect goods or regulatory non-compliance directly to enforcement personnel. By maintaining tight regulatory control, the agency aims to ensure that all educational materials available to families across the Sultanate fully align with national regulatory guidelines and cultural norms.
