Second Edition of Oman Football Academies League Launches in Dhofar Governorate

The growth of youth athletics in southern Oman is supported through the launch of the second edition of the Oman Football Academies League in Dhofar Governorate on October 1, 2026. The competition, scheduled to last for three days, will take place at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, offering an excellent chance for the exposure of the budding Omani talent in the sporting arena. The championship is an essential element of the national agenda to identify young football players and develop a new generation of gifted ones out of them. Sports officials designed the league format to provide structured competitive experience for local training centers, upgrade technical coaching standards, and reinforce core values of unity, mutual respect, and disciplined teamwork among youth across the governorate.

Alongside the primary football matches, the Directorate General has arranged a broader schedule of community sports programming to maximize youth involvement across various disciplines. The accompanying calendar features a girls’ gymnastics championship scheduled for September 30, culminating in a governorate-wide “Physical Activity Day” planned for October 26 to advocate healthy living habits among young residents.
Omani sports administrators note that structured youth leagues play an essential role in bridging the gap between grassroots football programs and competitive club-level play. By staging matches at international-grade facilities like the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex, the tournament gives young prospects crucial exposure to professional tournament conditions under accredited officiating.
Beyond cultivating athletic performance, the initiative aligns with government health goals by leveraging organized sport to foster social cohesion and active lifestyles. Building on the successful foundation of its inaugural run, the return of the Oman Football Academies League in Dhofar reflects expanded state support for regional athletic infrastructure, ensuring young talent outside the capital receives equal opportunity to develop and progress into national sports pipelines.
