Oman Champions Sustainable Growth, Maritime Safety, and Human Rights at UN General Assembly
The Sultanate of Oman has made considerable strides in the global arena of diplomacy, besides being a participant in various multi-sectoral negotiations taking place around the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The Omani delegation has been represented by high-ranking officials and diplomats working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, who pointed out the necessity to cooperate in the field of global trade, climate change, maritime security, and humanitarian action.
In order to promote economical ties between the regions of the world, Oman participated in the ministerial summit where GCC and ASEAN countries took part. Represented by Talal Al-Rahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to the United States, the delegation focused on expanding strategic partnerships in investment, commerce, and sustainable development between the two regional blocs.
On social policy and human rights, Omani representatives addressed delegates during the 40th anniversary commemoration of the UN Declaration on the Right to Development. Foreign Ministry official Sheikh Mohammed Al-Qutbi detailed the Sultanate’s national human rights framework, showcasing domestic achievements in expanding social protection networks, equal opportunity access, and structural social security reforms centered on human welfare. Oman also backed a joint initiative co-hosted by Mexico, the Netherlands, and the UN Human Rights Office aimed at converting global policy commitments into tangible international practices.
Addressing critical operational and environmental risks, Omani officials joined international ministerial panels dedicated to maritime security and climate action. The delegation participated in talks focused on safeguarding vital navigational passages, protecting subsea digital infrastructure, and expanding maritime domain awareness. In a climate session convened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Deputy Permanent Representative Khalid Al-Rabkhi reaffirmed Muscat’s commitment to accelerating national Net-Zero targets while balancing economic development with climate resilience.
The Sultanate further co-engaged in high-level discussions advocating for the enhanced protection of humanitarian workers operating in global conflict zones. Hosted jointly by countries including Australia, Brazil, Jordan, and the United Kingdom, the session urged strict adherence to international humanitarian law to safeguard relief personnel. Through these diplomatic exchanges, Oman reaffirmed its baseline foreign policy committed to peaceful coexistence, international legitimacy, and inclusive regional development.
