Thundershowers continue in several governorates
MUSCAT: Thundershowers associated with hail and active winds continued in parts of the Hajar Mountains range and desert areas of Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates, on Saturday.
Heavy rains fell in the governorates of Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah, North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah causing several wadis to overflow.
A number of desert areas and the southern Hajar Mountains were also affected by a dust storm resulting from downdrafts in neighbouring areas reducing horizontal visibility.
Motorists using the Sultan Said bin Taimur (Adam-Thumrait) road were alerted of the impact of strong winds along the road and the possibility of dust and sandstorms and poor horizontal visibility.
The latest weather forecasts indicate continued drizzle along the coastal strip and mountains of Dhofar Governorate, with moderate temperatures.
The monitoring stations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources indicated that Al Hamra recorded the highest rainfall with 56 mm, Yanqul 38 mm and Al Jabal Al Akhdhar 23 mm. The monitoring stations also recorded varying amounts of rainfall in a number of wilayats in the governorates of Dhofar, South Al Batinah, North Al Sharqiyah, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi and Al Dhahirah.
