The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology in Oman, called MTCIT, has confirmed that corrective protocols are actively underway. MTCIT says these protocols are designed to align concrete paving operations with the contract standards in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.
The regulatory response comes after public reports and digital media discussions have highlighted growing community concerns regarding the execution of concrete surface applications across the mountainous pass. In response, ministry officials coordinated joint field inspections alongside representatives from the local governor’s office, community leaders, municipal representatives, and the designated project contractor to review physical progress, examine structural compliance, and address citizen grievances firsthand.
While acknowledging the site’s severe topographic constraints—including high-altitude gradients, rugged mountain landscapes, difficult machinery access, and heightened risks from seasonal flash flooding—the ministry emphasized that engineering compromises will not be accepted.
Transport authorities instructed the construction firm to revise its operational methodology, update technical execution procedures, rectify uneven sections, and carry out immediate remedial works on non-compliant concrete stretches.
To safeguard long-term usability and protect public infrastructure investments, updated execution plans and specialized site protection measures are currently being integrated into daily operations. Inspectors will maintain direct, continuous monitoring across all remaining paving phases to verify structural stability, surface smoothness, and environmental resilience before the project receives final administrative approval.
