Sultan Haitham Inspects Duqm Port and Strategic Regional Projects on Al Wusta, South Al Sharqiyah Tour
Tour of field inspections through some of the wilayats in both the governorates of Al Wusta and South Al Sharqiyah. The tour is one of the major activities of the royal administration as far as inspection of local infrastructure projects, accelerating social services, and optimizing economic and tourism potential within the Sultanate of Oman are concerned.
The tour of field inspection is an indication of the efforts taken by the Omani government to facilitate balanced development and diversification of the economy in accordance with Oman Vision 2040.
Through first-hand inspection of the operations and needs of such areas, His Majesty wants to ensure that the development initiatives taken by the country actually lead to economic growth and build financial stability for the future.
As part of the tour’s initial itinerary, His Majesty conducted an on-site evaluation of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) and the maritime facilities at the Port of Duqm. Upon his arrival, the Sultan was formally received by Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, alongside senior port executives and leadership figures operating within the commercial complex.
The executive team presented comprehensive briefings covering recent infrastructure expansions, current maritime cargo throughput, and long-term capital investment strategies designed to transform the area into a world-class industrial hub.
Accompanying His Majesty on the high-level delegation were key cabinet officials, including HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, along with the Ministers of Interior, Finance, Commerce, Energy, and Transport. During the site assessment, His Majesty commended the unified national efforts driving the region’s development and inscribed a commemorative message celebrating the progress achieved at the maritime zone.
Following the briefings, His Majesty issued explicit royal directives instructing state authorities to fully leverage Duqm’s strategic geographic advantage along international shipping lanes. He emphasized the necessity of strengthening the zone’s status as a premier regional economic, trade, and logistics hub while expanding targeted incentives to attract further local and foreign direct capital.
Moving forward, the royal motorcade will continue through neighboring wilayats in Al Wusta and South Al Sharqiyah, allowing national leadership to assess local municipal projects firsthand, review regional public utility networks, and ensure developmental frameworks align precisely with local economic requirements.
