King Abdullah II Receives Omani Shura Council Chairman to Bolster Bilateral Ties in Amman
On Wednesday, King Abdullah II of Jordan welcomed Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Omani Shura Council in the Jordanian capital, to assess parliamentary representation and the discussion of strategic cooperation between the two Arab nations.
As part of the high-level diplomatic meeting held at the royal palace, the Hashemite king emphasised the historically established brotherly bond that exists between Jordan and the Sultanate of Oman. King Abdullah stressed a common resolve to expand on the various partnerships existing between both countries through increased interaction in legislative, political, and economic fields.
This meeting of the Omani delegation is indicative of the consistent progress that has been made in high-level interactions between GCC member states and the Hashemite Kingdom.
Beyond ceremonial goodwill, the meeting provided a platform to align legislative visions and foster closer inter-parliamentary coordination between Oman’s consultative body and Jordan’s national assembly.
Discussions focused on capitalising on shared legislative expertise, boosting bilateral institutional frameworks, and exchanging best practices regarding governance and public policy. The talks also touched upon regional developments, with both parties reaffirming the importance of political alignment and mutual consultation to maintain stability and encourage economic synergy across the broader Middle East.
The audience was attended by prominent dignitaries from both nations, underscoring the strategic weight of the encounter. Among the Jordanian attendees were Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi; Director of the King’s Office Eng. Alaa Al-Batayneh; and Speaker of the House of Representatives Mazen Al-Qadi. The Sultanate of Oman was represented alongside Al Maawali by its official legislative delegation and the Sultanate’s accredited Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom.
This diplomatic dialogue reflects the deep historical foundation connecting Muscat and Amman, built on decades of non-interference, political consensus, and economic collaboration. Both leaderships have consistently prioritised joint dialogue to navigate shifting regional realities while strengthening bilateral economic trade and institutional collaboration.
